NON-VENTING !, January 1, 2008
By SterlingAB from Middletown, NY

"I use fuel cans on a daily basis, so I have a fair bit of experience with different cans. This can has no vent location, relying instead on a molded-in air line running inside of the pour neck to break the vacuum of the dispensed fuel. While this sounds good, as it eliminates the need to pop off the vent cap, in reality the design substantially reduces the flow rate out of the can. How much slower you ask? I have an older blitz 5 gallon plastic fuel can which appears to be the same body; the only difference being that it has the separate vent hole with cap, and a clear plastic flex-spout.(think of a large flexable straw) When I compare the two, this new system takes more than three times as long to empty the can. To me, that is way too long. I'd rather just pop the vent cap on the other one and be done fueling earler!"

Why should we need to modify a gas can??, October 31, 2007
By bamaboy473 from Gulf Coast Alabama

"I fill five gas cans and then transfer the gas into my boat's fuel tank... how tough should that be?
The caps are made to be pried off only when turned to a specific position. It would be a LOT easier if the cap's Open position was a different color or texture!
The can doesn't vent, so plan on something splitting if the gas can is left in hot sun.
(I'm now using corks instead of the yellow caps, and that solves both the opening and the venting problems)
Pouring gas takes a long time because the vented spout doesn't transfer enough air. I drilled holes in the tops of the cans and use wood screws to close the holes. A pure vent hole cuts transfer time in half, and that's important if transfering 25 gallons at a time.
Oh, it does hold 5 gallons, so that's a plus... The two handles are a good thing, too. The size makes them easy to place side by side in a vehicle ."

"The two handles make this the easiest gas can to use by far. The self venting feature really makes fuel transfer quick and easy. Sturdy little can!"

cheap....but obviously cheap, March 9, 2007
By SteveMowsTheLawn from West Virgina

"it certainly is inexpensive. that is important. i, however, had a problem with it. i keeep it outside near my tractor and the recent warm and cold snaps have shown me that it doesn't "self vent"...it goes from a shriveled up prune to a bursting at the seams watermelon during the span of 10-15 degrees....not good at all....the cap is tricky to remove and, alternately, to get to stay on. the two handles are nice...but the spout is at an angle that makes me spill gas everytime.....(i should buy a funnel, i know....) anyways....it IS a decent can...just not what i hoped for. as the old saying goes.....you get what you pay for. recommended for infrequent use....3 stars is not too bad at all, really."

Superior Quality, March 6, 2007
By StanB from Nevada

"If you are in need of a five gallon container, this container is one of the best. It has an easy pour spout and is easy to grip with handles on top and side. I use these all over the farm and they stand up to the demands of use and weather very well. The best part about this container is the price offered by Northern. You aren't going to beat their price."
