"These have turned out to be even better than expected. I purchased three of these, or a table and a half if they spent most of their time in table form. Ours are more often used as benches around the fire pit, but it is the ability to convert that makes them really nice. Having a family cookout or need a place to but the marshmallow roasting supplies? Just flip up the table top.
The assembly is simple, and can be done easily by one person alone. The instructions are clear and easily followed. The pieces themselves were clean and without sharp edges or flashing. The hardware is included, and was complete. I used basic treated lumber, stained it with a dark stain, so my overall expenses were just about $100 for everything per bench.
I would happily purchase these again."

Eagle Project,
August 31, 2008
By Anonymous Reviewerfrom Harrison, Ohio
"My son built eight of these benches for an Eagle Scout Project for an elementary school. We chose to use composite lumber for durability, safety, and the ever important "no maintenace required" aspect. We made 7' benches. They are simple to build even for 14 and 15 year old boys. The composite lumber was problematic in that it flexed a lot. In order to overcome that, he bought more frames and used three frames per bench. The redwood composite, with the sandstone frame, made a beautiful bench that will hopefully provide years of use at the outdoor education center at the school."

love this table set,
August 11, 2008
By nettyboofrom Amelia,Virginia
"I bought a set for myself ,and I loved them so much that I bought a set for my sister for her birthday. She had her husband put them together and she fell in love with them also. They were not real hard to put together if you follow the directions, and I love the fact that you can have two bench seats with plenty of room and if you need a table viola, there it is!!!!!"

excellent choice,
August 11, 2008
By amagafrom ocean park, wa
"We bought 2 sets in order to make a table. The finished product is beautiful, sturdy, versitile, good looking piece of outside furniture. My mom and I put it together for a surprise birthday gift for my father. The directions were relatiively clear, though we found it awkward putting in the wood screws to the bench after the top and bottom were connected. We also took the advice of another reviewer and positioned the legs closer in for an eight foot bench to give it more support. Overall a great project, we did pretty good for two beginners whose only experience is watching do it yourself programs."

Easy & great bench - Table,
August 11, 2008
By creedfrom Hollywood Fl
"After getting the bench ends, I chose to purchase 8' Pressure Treated 2X4's for my benches. I made 2 of them so I have a full picnic table when needed. All the bolts & screws are included. I didn't finish the wood before assembly, but would recommend taking the time to do so. The directions are more for a 6' bench, but with a little figuring, you can scale them up to the 8' that I made. At 8' the bench really needs 2 people to move or carry. Ad it was hard to maneuver while building it by myself. I will probably replace the bolts & screws with Stainless steel fasteners at a later time. I also plan to take them apart & finish the wood. i strongly recommend a good quality 2X4s & taking the time to finish the wood. A great 1/2 day project that has been of great use for the last 4 months & I am looking forward to many more parties & gatherings utilizing these benches - tables."

Extended flip top bench,
August 11, 2008
By GeoVioLawrencefrom Richland, WA
"I extended the backs of the two benches (table top) to 10 feet and the seats to 8 feet. Adequate cross braces were provided to give a sturdy seating capacity of upto fourteen (14) adults !!! 2x4 green stick cedar boards were used and these are finished with clear indoor/outdoor polyurethane. A 2x6x10 removable center board extends the table width by about 7". It is attached in place over extensions of the cross braces with 3-1/2" machine bolts and wing nuts. Pictures can be provided upon request."

Love It,
June 6, 2008
By rit63from New Castle, PA
"My wife and I bought a set for ourselves. It went together easily and we have used it often both as a picnic table and as benches. Our families think they're great too. So great in fact we have built a table for my parents, my in-laws and several other family members have ordered them also. The kit went together easily and the instructions are very straight forward. I'd reccomend this to anyone."

Nice product for the money.,
October 17, 2007
By BBOutdoorsfrom Pickerington, OH
"I found the Flip Top Bench to be a very easy product to build. It has come in very handy and is easy to move with my daughters or wife since its half the weight of a conventional picnic table. I will most likely buy another one next year to make a set."

"Great end result. Cut wood to desired size. Waterproofed it then put it together. There was some difficulty putting in some of the screws as the tool I was using was too big. Otherwise, it is a great bench, reading table for our backyard."

Great value for the cost / effort,
October 8, 2007
By Thehandymancanfrom Colorado Springs, CO
"I decided I wanted a 7-foot bench. This altered all of the dimensions shown on the instructions. This was only a minor issue to overcome. As I started assembling I realized that moving the legs in a bit gave the boards a little more stability. I realize the reason for putting the legs so far out was to prevent someone from sitting on the end and flipping the bench. However, moving the legs a few inches closer to the center on both sides gave the seat boards much more rigidity. The instructions recommend a short board in the center of the seat boards for added stability. I evenly spaced two short boards in the center of the seat. This greatly improved the rigidity of the seat boards. I also put two support boards on the back / table-top boards, to give it rigidity and keep the table-top / bench-back from warping. It was a more cost, and work then I anticipated from the onset. The redwood boards and stain for two cost around $100 per bench ($200 total). Adding the cost of the legs I estimate the table / benches cost me a little over $300. I had to cut all of the boards, sand (smooth) all of the sides and ends (4 sides and 2 ends per board), round all of the edges (4 edges and 2 ends per board), stain all of the boards (4 sides and 2 ends per board), hold everything in place while I predrilled the screw holes, and then screw it all together. The staining took several evenings. The measuring and pre-drilling the boards took a couple of evenings, and the final assembly took a couple of evenings. Since I was buying a “do-it-yourself-kit” I should have known the time involved would be more then I estimated, since I tend to under estimate projects like this. All-in-all the end product is very nice, and an excellent value for the cost / effort. I think we will be happy with the bench for many, many years. I am certain a comparable pre-manufactured bench would cost twice as much as we ended up spending."

Bring on the Dogs,
July 9, 2007
By OuttaHerefrom Southeastern Michigan
"Material is quite substantial. Well written instructions, very specific, easy to follow. Construction was a snap. Recommend having all lumber cut to instructions specs when you purchase to make project much easier. Received lots of positive feedback with completion of bench/table. Had thought about ordering this product for a couple of summers. Glad I finally did. Will last a long long time."

Folding Picnic Table,
July 9, 2007
By BigBearfrom West Virginia
"These tables go together so fast and they are great. We have two and love them. When people come to cookouts, we have the space. When dinner is over, we flip the tables up and have more seating. We are planning to build more of these."

What a great idea!,
July 9, 2007
By mstanatfrom Chapel Hill, NC
"We built two of these and use them daily on our deck. Most of the time they are pushed against the railings to be used as benches or with the top up to use as a homework or paperwork surface while enjoying the views off the deck. They are easy to move around and we use them for occasional dinners set up as a full-size table. Seats more than our inside table, so great for cookouts with guests.
Assembly is quick and easy with clear instructions. A cordless screwdriver/drill is necessary and pre-drilling keeps spacing even between boards. This was a great family project."
