Best money I have ever spent.,
July 20, 2009

"I bought this generator a few years ago after suffering through a number of power outages in our city. After the family had to spend several days in a motel 100 + miles from home (only thing available as ALL hotels/motels were booked locally) and loosing several hundred dollars of food in refrigerators and freezers - I decided that would be the LAST time we would go through that.
After figuring out the wattage needed to run approx 80% of our total household (furnace , 2 refrigerators, deep freeze, microwave, partial lighting etc.) I chose this unit along with a 50A transfer switch and outside receptacle to connect the generator to our service panel inside the house. All I need to do in case of a power outage now, is connect a power cord between the generator and house receptacle outside, turn the start key on the generator, and I'm back in business!
The Honda engine starts and runs flawlessly, and the generator output is enough to run almost the entire household. Fuel consumption is approx 1 gal /hr with a moderate load on the generator. It is a heavy unit so if you plan to move it around any, I would recommend getting the wheel kit as well. It IS somewhat loud in operation, and the neighbors will notice it as well. Honda makes a larger / optional muffler for this engine that I purchased that takes quite a few db off of the noise level, and it helps out. I also added an hour meter to mine as well, to keep track of usage.
One thing I noticed is that the output frequency on my unit is slightly off (a little below 60 Hz) which makes my alarm clocks run a little behind (looses time) but not enough to worry about over the span of a few days time.
This generator has served me VERY well over the last few years, through freezing cold ice storms, and the sweltering heat of summer a number of times now - usually for several days at a time. It has run 24 / 7 with no problems, only stopping briefly while refueling. Like I said in the above title -- It was the best money I ever spent as far as I'm concerned."

Honda powered generators,

"I have been in the fire service for nearly forty years. I have seen equipment evolve and improve through trial and error. Whatever we use on the fire ground has to be dependable and tough. It must not fail in all types of environments, ranging from very cold temps to smoke filled rooms. The Honda powered generators that we now use are the best I have seen in my career. I have no doubt that when I turn the switch to "on", it will not only start, but I can walk away and be confident that it will not leave me and my crew in the dark. When your life may depend on a tool. it is comforting to have that kind of dependability."

Excellent Generator,

"I bought this a few weeks before Ike. I wanted the two 240 outlets on a generator. I have two meters, one for the house and one for the garage and utilities. We were without power for 7 days due to Ike. As soon as the storm passed, I set up the Generator and with the two outlets, I ran everything. After the first couple of days, I did not run central A/C as we had really cool nights and reasonable days. No problems at any time with this unit. It is fairly loud, but almost all generators are. We just kept the windows on the generator side of the house closed. Gasoline usage was slightly under 1 gallon per hour."

A tough generator.,
August 20, 2008

"Gen has pull start and electric start.Pull starter sticks out past frame.Pull starter was damaged in shipping.Northern Tool folks immediately sent new parts ,free of charge, with no hassle, and gen works great.
Had flood in November of 2006.Found generator in woods under 20 ft of water.Drug it out in the back of an ATV trailer.Rinsed engine and gen, inside and out.Replaced all filters.Put in new gas,and oil, and hit the key.Gen had sealed DieHard battery. Engine sputtered to life and has been working fine ever since.Ran non-stop for 4 days while power company got power to us.Generator is heavy to move without wheel kit and is moderately loud. Will place on small trailer to move in case of flood again.I think this is a very tough generator, worth every penny.

"I bought this generator to power my tools on a "hobby" project, fixing up a 100 year old lighthouse that is 1.5 miles off shore. It sat all winter and when I went to start it up this spring, it didn't miss a beat! It's great to be able to run all the tools/lights without having a strain on anything. This will definately make the refurbishing a lot easier!"

Generator Power,
April 21, 2008
"I bought 2 of these generators for my business. We run large Cardi drills through road pavement and they hardly burp. Our Husqvarna 14" saws don't even bother the powerplant. Honda engines are one of the most reliable powerplants for a generator. I wasn't quite sure about the Northstar platform but I learned where they were built and it put my mind at ease, because that company has been around for some time and has a good rep. These gens. make some steady power that can't get interrupted.
Controls are easy to reach. All the outlets you need. Large cage around it to protect it from high altitude drops. Big gas tank to drain your wallet just once at the pump. Plus all the referance material to service and maintain Mr. Honda engine, and wiring diagrams on the gen. One down side, Noisy...... Too loud, but it does it's job.

10,000 Watts,
February 20, 2008
By Randall69
from Goreville, IL.
"I live in the country and planned to use this for farm use and to power my home appliances, we have a lot of power outages. Recently after a heavy ice/snow storm here in the Midwest thousands of people were without power, including me. I was surprised how well this generator backed up the house and kept us comfortable for more than a week. We had hot water, cooking, heat and since we were iced in my Wide Screen TV and Dish were powered as well, my computer equipment, everything was perfect. The first couple days I had to siphon gas out of tractors, jeep, car, lawnmowers to keep us going. After I was able to get out and get gas we had "no problems". At first the gas usage was a bit high I thought but as the engine broke in I was shocked that we were only using about 16 gal per 18 hrs. Everyone in our neighbor hood left, we were the only ones that stayed. We were only able to stay because of the NorthStar 10,000 Watt Generator. The 18hp Honda engine never did work hard just constant, we became use to the "Hummmmm" of the engine. I bought this generator in 2004. If I had it to do over I would have made NO other choice. My research and decision with the 10,000 Watt NorthStar Generator was the right decision for me and I'd do it over again and know that it was money well spent."
