Best Gasoline Generator We Ever Bought,
March 23, 2009
By ColonialEarthworks

"We have bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment from Northern Tool and this is the best of all.
First the down side... It uses more gas than I would prefer (about eight to ten hours per tank), and is loud enough to wake the dead. We look at the loud noise as a two fold benefit: first, no one would steal anything that load, and; if anyone did try to steal it we would know instantly by the sudden silence. Just place it far enough away and run large gauge cords to carry the amps. Sometimes we put up a temporary plywood sheet wall to block the noise if its going to be stationary for a while.
That said, it is the best generator in our inventory. We have both gas and diesel generators from 1.5 kW to 40 Kw. This is the unit that the guys fight over to have on their job site.
You gotta love the fuel tank draining system. We used it to drain the diesel that one of our new guys filled it with. It ran, but ot prefers gasoline. Took about ten minutes and we were back in business.
It starts every time. Whether it is 10 degrees F or 100 degrees F, it starts fast and runs smooth. We have used it to run a field office trailer with A/C and heat, computers, printers, refrigerator, lights, battery chargers and every electric tool we own. Never bogged it down yet.
BUY THE WHEEL KIT. It moves easily with the wheel kit. You need a fork lift if you don't have the wheel kit.
Like I said, this is the generator the guys fight over to use. That should tell you enough. If you need a generator of this size that you will work hard, long hours and want it to stay out of the maintenance shop, this is it.
Thanks Northern for many years of reliable service."

Solid Performer,

"I purchased this unit, with the associated wheel kit, for constuction use as well as for backup for my home and small business.
The unit has functioned perfectly right from the box. The only other accessory that I have installed is an hour meter.
My needs demand reliability, and sometimes for extended periods of times. I have not been disappointed once - no problems at all.
The service from Northern Tool has also been excellent. Initially I had some questions regarding setup and use on Natural Gas, and I am very satisfied with the assistance the I was able to receive from Northern Tool.

A real workhorse,

"Bought this generator in August 07. After power outage last spring that lasted 4 days I decided to make it right. Had my electrician transfer the circuits I wanted to a separate panel and then add a transfer switch: I do noy power the whole house just the essentials: well pump, 2-refrigerators, heat pump and boiler and essential lighting.
This generator was delivered by freight truck and it is heavy. I used my floor jack to keep it elevated while I put on the wheel kit (a must have) . When you start it it will seem to be running to fast, do not adjust it. It was set at the factory for max output, leave it. You will have to get basically a riding lawn mower battery, some engine oil and gasoline. Use stabilizer in the gas. Did a simulated power outage and ran the circuits with the generator for 15 minutes as a test. Made sure every circuit was started and active. This things 60amp power is more than enough. Yes its big and heavy (can be rolled with the wheel kit but not by the elderly or a small woman) and noisy, Not horrible noisy but your going to hear it in the house. Lastly, and this applies to all generators, start it onece a month for 10 minutes.
An emergency generator is like insurance, You do not need it 99.9% of the time but when you do, you do,"
