Not for professionals,

"I bought this welding shield because of the glowing reviews here. Either no real professionals reviewed this shield or I got a lemon.
I never got to the point of using the auto-darkening lens because the headgear told me to immediately box this thing up and send it back.
Everything looks good on this shield and at first fit the headgear seems to tighten and hold well. The problem is the “drop stop” which is the feature that stops the helmet at a certain point in front of your face, is weak and doesn’t hold.
The plastic housing of the shield is too flexible for the weight of the shield and the little pin that is supposed to “stop the drop” pops out of its location, thus allowing the shield to slip to the next position each time you drop it.
There is only one “drop stop” mechanism on the left side of the shield but there are symmetrical holes on the right side of the shield designed to employ a second. Perhaps they should have actually put a stop mechanism on that side…the holes are just there doing nothing.
A big disappointment…I was looking forward to using this shield. I have since ordered a professional shield…I should have known better."

a must have for hobby and pros alike,
November 10, 2009
"i gave this helmet 5 stars on the overall rating but it is about a 4.7. i use this helmet constantly and love it. the size of the viewing area compared to any other helmet on the market for the dollar is totally the best. the helmet is long enough to cover the neck and head from sparks without being cumbersome. i do a lot of up close tig welding and don't have a problem bumping the hood against my chest. when you compare this helmets features, sensitivity, shade and 4 arc sensors (a must for tig welding or partially obstructed welding) with the monster viewing area it is the best on the market. the helmet stops work great to prevent the helmet from flipping down to far and have several adjustment stops. i only rated this helmet 4.7 out of 5 because of two minor inconveniences. the first is the helmet width. i have barn door ears and if the helmet cocks to one side or the other even slightly the deep sides of the helmet rub the edge of my ear. the other small detail is the adjustments are inside and you need to take your helmet and gloves off to adjust them even with tig gloves on i find it difficult to adjust the sensitivity but once everything is set i cant tell you how great this helmet has been. oh yeah the headband adjustment is very smooth and holds great and the helmet is light enough not to bother me at all."

Great Helmet for the Money,
November 2, 2009
"This is a great buy compared to some of the high end helmets out there. Everything works as indicated in the specs. The only thing that isn't perfect is that even with the sensitivity turned all the way down, ambient light can dim the lense. It works great unless I look up at the overhead lights or out the window on a sunny day."

Northern Industrial Large-View ADF Welding Helmet,
November 2, 2009
By Donman

"This is a great welding helmet. I love the large view, it allows me to leave my glasses on and still weld. My wife bought this for me as a gift, and it's one of the best gifts she's ever gotton me. I've had it for some time now, and it is the best welding helmet I've ever used, and I've used quite a few."

bang for the buck,
November 2, 2009

"I purchased this in the store, they honored the online sale price. I compared any other hoods in the same price range and this had the best bang for the buck. The large viewing screen makes a huge difference. I'm a beginner welder, and since I started using this auto darkening helmet my welds have improved greatly. The documentation included isn't the greatest, but there's only 3 variables to adjust on the thing so trial and error worked for me. Its comfortable fit on my large head (7 5/8 ") and I really like it.
My only gripe is fogging, It might just be the angle i was using this at, but it would get condensation under the inside glass. I fixed that with a little Rain-X anti-fog, witch I'm not sure if there are any consequences from using that, but it worked. I'm not a huge fan of the graphics on this thing either, if they offered a plain black one i would have purchased that one for sure. Overall its a solid investment and compared to others with similar features this is the best bang for the buck.

works fine,
October 19, 2009

"I have had this for about 4 months and used it a lot. I bought it because of the large viewing window. Most have a smaller window. Everything has worked fine. No problems. It has made welding much easier and more accurate. Several delicate jobs would have been difficult if not for the auto darkening feature. It is very nice to be able to crawl under a job and not have to flip up the helmet to get set on the work. This is a must have."

"This is the best welding helmet Ive ever used. It fits good, the large view is very convenient, especially when working under a truck in a tight space. It protects my whole face and neck from welding burn and splatter. Its lightweight and not very expensive. I love this helmet and would recommend it to anyone."

"i have used this helmet to do alot of welding and it holds up great only problem i had is that the replacement lenses crack really easily but it is no big deal because they still do thier job and keep the auto lense protected"
