Great drill, November 18, 2008
By EricJ1 from Brooklyn,NY

"I've been using one of these drills around the house for a year and it works great. Easy to change bits, battery holds a charge and is quickly recharged.
Has good power for a light drill."

Powerful and Comfortable, April 23, 2008
By wishoring from Madison, WI

"The charge time is very quick and the run time on a full battery was surprisingly long. The drill/driver has more power than some of my previous 14.4V units. The clutch was easy to adjust and set and handles nicely. The flashlight is light and puts out a good beam."

Makita cordless, April 21, 2008
By 1mack from Diamond,Mo

"Makita has been around a long time. They have never let me down with the tools I have purchased. The only thing I can think of is if it were a bigger volt. Other than that, it's a great homeowners sidekick. Now that my grandson is learning to use it, I'll probably be buying another."

Makita 12v Driver/Drill Kit w/ flashlight, April 21, 2008
By vinnyd from Menifee, CA

"I received this kit as a gift and thought the flashlight would be next to useless. Not true. I have found it to be almost as useful as the drill. It has a powerful beam and is always ready since I always have a charged battery ready.
The drill has been very reliable over the nearly 10 years I have owned it. It is very powerful for a 12v drill and the batteries have a good life and charge very quickly. I only had to replace the motor once. I am very happy with this kit and won't replace it until it wears out."

Excellent all around drill, January 23, 2008
By Deano409 from Wisconsin

"I have had one of these Makitas for several years. It has good power and battery life without being heavy or cumbersome like some models with higher voltages. A good quality 12 or 14.4 volt drill like this one is perfect for 99% of household jobs."

Makita 12volt Cordless 3/8" Drill & Light Package, October 29, 2007
By DiverManMike from Los Angeles, CA

"Makita scores again in packaging not only a practically unbreakable drill with an adjustable light that can be used in both shop, home and even camping. By providing two batteries, one is always charging - leaving the user free to use the drill to the very end without having to stop for a recharge period. Makita puts all of this in a attractive (and protective) heavy-duty plastic case that will hold everything, and a few drill bits as well.
In use, the drill functions well for moderate jobs, it IS only a 12 volt system. Being so, it lacks much of the power that its stronger brothers will maintain. But with an adjustable collet, you can dial in your power setting to ensure you don't over-tighten screws. I've used it to build furniture, put up drywall, do home repairs, and work around the shop - it seems to always be there when I need it.
They've designed the batteries to change out easily and quickly - one hand holds the drill, the other cups the battery and pinches the releases. It easily drops out, and the replacement slides right in. There is a satisfying "click" when the new battery is all the way in. The charger is also a no-brainer. Lights tell you when the old battery is now charged and ready for use.
I found it easy to use with either hand, as the controls led themselves to "touch memory", and were easily memorized. All the controls seemed to be placed well, I have no complaints.
After about a year of use, I did have to replace the hand-tightening drill chuck. It started getting stiffer and stiffer, and more difficult to operate. I was able to buy one at the dealer, and it was swapped out with only minor delays.
Overall, I'd say this was a very good deal for the money; and it has given me far more use than I'd expect from a "typical" cordless drill.
P.S. And my wife thinks that the light is great too! She won't touch my tools!!!
Bravo Makita!"
