drain cleaner works good,
August 13, 2008

"I use this drain cleaning hose by it's self,or after cleaning with a mechanical snake. i do maintence for a chain of laundromats and i have frequent blockages that must be cleared quickly! while this product works best upstream it will clear blockages either way, removing more waste than a snake alone! i have found that i can go longer and just do prentive maintence as opposed to cleaning a emergency jam, this is a good inexpensive tool to get a good result without spending a lot of money! thankyou chris"

Finally the right tool for the job!,

"I have a problem with my drain tiles under the basement floor clogging up with sand and I need to clean them about every 6 to 9 months. I had been using a garden hose that I would shove into the tiles from the sump crock and it was a workout hanging upside down trying to work the hose into the tile shoving it through the turns. I got this hose in and after opening it up I thought there was no way I'd ever get this soft flexible hose to shove through the tiles without it curling up in a ball somewhere. To my surprise there was no shoving to be done. You get the end poked into the tile about a foot, turn on the pump and that little sucker flies itself through the tiles. All you have to do it feed it enough slack to keep running. I won't say I'm looking forward to the next cleanout but I'm not dreading it like before. A+ system!"

Not as advertised,
July 4, 2008

"Item is advertised as 4200psi max, 5gpm., 200 degree F. in 08 spring/summer catalog and online. When it arrived, it was 2000psi., 4gpm., 150 degree F. It looks well built and probably works good but I'm afraid to try it with my 2800psi pressure washer since there's no way to turn down the pressure."

Finally, I get the right tool for the job!,
April 22, 2008

"I just completed a multi-month effort at clearing a drain that was plugging up the flow from the kitchen as well as two lower level baths. Water could flow between the kitchen and the baths, but not out of the house. It was terrible. I was anticipating having to spend maybe $600 or so to have the Rooter guy some out and "JET" the drain with his big honking 40 horse 10GPM rig, and hoping that I might be able to get the job done myself for a lot less.
Once I picked up a metric to 3/8" quick change adapter, I went down to our local tool rental establishment and rented a 2000 PSI gas driven pump. Nothing too special about it, but I figured it didn't have the volume rating called out in the specs for the hose. The pump was the smaller of two types available - weighed about 60 pounds - I'd guess it was maybe twice the volume I had seen from my neighbor's little electric pressure washer.
The three jets on the end of the hose smoothly drew the hose into a 3" pipe. It seemed to be doing better going into the pipe that was full of water than when just working against air in an adjacent 3" pipe. I wound up poking the cleaning hose into every cleanout in the house some were 1.5" for a short distance before connecting to more 3" ABS.
The one cleanout that was the hardest to work with with steel snakes wound up being my problem. The little blue hose nearly flew down the small pipe and through two 90 degree turns breaking loose chunks of a whitish colored substance - maybe grits and grease? Anyway, the hose finally hit an obstruction, and wouldn't go any further. I just jiggled the hose back and forth and let the tip bang into the obstruction. After 15 or 20 minutes of working at the obstruction without making headway, I walked around the house looking for some additional cleanouts that I might have missed and heard a bubbling noise in a buried vault and found that the obstruction was a couple of feet of heavy buildup that the jets had finally eroded so that the water had broken through the surface.
It makes me wonder if the tip shouldn't also have a forward pointing jet for breaking up a solid obstruction, but overall, I'm a happy camper! My order, the adapter to connect to the rental pump and the pump rental were less than a third of the cost of having the Rooter guy do the job.
Anybody need about 150' of 1/2" steel drain snake? cheap! I won't be using that stuff any more."
