"This item is a gem.You will pay for it the 1st week. All of the old bits that are dull can be sharpened and made usable in 1 afternoon. I know I saved a couple of hundred $$ in one afternoon by sharpening the bits I had discarded in a drawer. Will by another one if this one ever fails!

It's also very easy to use!!!"

"I had several dull bits sitting around. I decided to sharpen these bits using the dd550x. I found it easy to use and after sharpening the bits I tried drilling with a few on a steel plate I had at home and was pleased with their cutting results.
I would have liked the dd550x to be able to sharpen 3/4" bits for the same price though.
I do like the idea that angles and depth of cut are built into the design and that's what sold me on this item along with the price."

"Sharpening Drills has always be a difficult thing to do. I often took my bits to my buddy at the tool shop because I wanted the done right. The drill doctor has eliminated the need to do that. It is quick and easy to set up and performs very well."

"I have been using every kind of tool all my life. I feel comfortable using most any tool except this one. It sharpens bits great for awhile and then out of the blue I fail terribly on the next 5or6 bits. For some reason something changes and no matter what I do the bits come out duller than when I started. The majority of the time it works great, but then there are times it just won'tsharpen. I have to tinker with it to get it right again. It's a great tool when it works. Maybe it's just me. Overall I would recommend this tool."

"This is an excellent tool. It makes sharpening drill bits easy. It is simple to properly insert a drill bit and sharpen it. I sharpened all my bits in a couple of days and they cut very well. I had poor results trying to sharpen drills on a grinding wheel, even with a small attachment. The Drill Doctor eliminates the need for the aquired skill to otherwise sharpen bits."

"I love this drill bit sharpener! It works great, The bits after sharpening may even be sharper than when new! Look at another drill bit manufacturer and youll see that they usally start at around $900.00!

Another great feature with this model and the 750 is that you can create a split point on your bit. Which will drill faster and easyer especially when drilling with a hand drill.

To sharpen for instance a 3/8" drill bit will take about 1 1/2 minutes.

The only slight down fall is that with the larger drill bits the motor seems to be a little under powered.

And if your interesed in this model I would recommed just purchasing the model 750 this way you can sharpen 3/4" bits."

"I've reshapened a handfull of bits so far (masonry bits too) and have nothing but good things to say. The spring loaded bit positioner is genius. Creating good split points takes practice, but is easy once you get the hang of it.

I'd give it 5 stars, but I haven't had it long enough to evaluate part wear and accuracy over a long period."

"It seems like we were constantly buying drill bits to get the right size bit for whatever job we were doing. It got to the point that we had to start buying cheaper bits just to keep the costs down. When we had a change in the Mechanic's position, we found a whole drawer full of the old drill bits. It appears that when a bit became dull, it was thrown in "the drawer" and new ones were purchased. Since we purchased this "Drill Doctor", we haven't purchased another set of bits, and have actually replinished a couple of sets that were missing the most popular sizes. This machine will pay for itself in no time!"
