Can't wait to use it!,
July 24, 2009
By backyard315
from SE Massachusetts
"I received the pump a week ago, but I'm still driving my well point. I'm down 28' and nothing. If I don't hit water soon this will be a yard ornament and that will be OK because the pump will look great in the garden. I have it assembled in the garage and can't wait to use it. The box arrived damaged, with some nuts and bolts missing. I was able to replace then locally."

Quality Control Needed for Hand Pumps,
July 13, 2009
By GardeningFool
from New Brighton, PA
"This is the second hand pump that we purchased from Northern Tool. It is a unique pump that does not require an electrical hook-up. Last fall, we forgot to bring the original pump in before a hard freeze. One cast iron part split in two.
This spring we ordered a replacement. UPS returned the pump (refused to deliver) directly to Northern Tool because the packaging was severly damaged. We eventually recieved a damaged pump. However, in our case, the single piece we needed did not have noticable damage (i.e., no exterior damage).
Northern Tool Customer Service was very helpful. We reached an agreement for a discount of $25 in exchange for voiding our warrenty. Upon installing the pump, we found the inside of the chamber where the rubber seal is seated was improperly cast. We now have a pump that does not pump water. Looks nice.
Quality control at the point of manufacturing is very poor. It is a unique pump that when manufactured correctly is very servicable, attractive, easy to install and easy to use. In cold climates, the pump must be uninstalled for winter."

Good design, cheap construction,

"The pump works well, and the base and pump combination are great for the height.
The long stroke on the pump delivers more water than smaller pumps.
My only problem with it, is that is was simply not built to last. The metal is cheap and brittle, and the cup lasted about 2 years.
Trying now to get replacement parts. The cups were available, but the top bracket part that broke has been backordered for several months now. I may have to buy a complete unit to get back in action."

northern Industrial Lage Cast Iron Hand pump,
October 8, 2007

"We like ours . It brings back days when my Grandparents were alive and it was necessary for them to use one. We hooked it up with no problems. I would recommend this. When we have Visitors, they say where did you get that?. Then of course they have to try it out and they say "That is so nice." Hope you have as much
use and pleasure out of it as we have had.

pump,

"I just installed this pump and it works well!
The box comes with no instructions but it is pretty easy to figure out. It justs
comes with a poorly drawn diagram
I use it for a small catch basin I have on a stream which holds about
44 gals of water. Great for the kids to play with and water plants.
Did have to wait 2 months for the product but it was worth it.

Excellent hand pump,
May 30, 2007
By KScheer

"I just installed this hand pump in my garden and I am delighted with the flow it produces. It pumps very efficiently and creates a larger volume of water than expected. The pump is an extraordinary value, though I do have my doubts as to how long the rubber piston cup will last, but it can be replaced with the standard leather version. Mind you, my water table is exceptionally shallow, but even so, this far out performs other cast iron cistern pumps."
