Buyers Walk-behind Spreader,

"I am in Facility Management and have tried other salt spreaders in the past and they all paled in comparison to this one. It will hold 50-60 Lbs of salt with out stripping the heavy-duty metal driving gears. If you have a large amount of salt spreading to do, this spreader will go the distance for you."

Good but could be better,

"Cons:
Somewhat annoying to assemble. Packaging was awful but the product was sturdy enough to survive UPS mistreatment (though parts were sticking out of the box!).
It's too hard to get the drive wheel to start spinning while in snow or ice. With 100 pounds on top of it, it should spin freely but instead tends to drag through the snow. I'm not smart enough to know what the fix for this is... Different gear ratio maybe?
The pin that's used as a stirrer falls out too often... And it's pretty annoying to fix when the bucket is loaded.
Pros: It's very solidly built. And the included "shower cap" is much more useful that i would have thought.
It's not a bad product, and is MASSIVELY better then the cheap lawn spreaders I had been using."

"Got this last year, assembly was a pain but I got it together and running fine. First needed to add an agitator to get peletized calcium to move evenly. Now this year I find the plastic piece connecting the shaft to the gear drive has broken, it seems the galvanized axle has rusted freezing the part to the axle causing it to break. got the part but after long disassembley it looks to me like this will be a chronic problem. I am going to try to get it replaced with another brand."

"Put together for my mom.The box did look like it fall off the truck. The handle came thru the box.Took about 70 minutes to put together so the lower linkage or rod some people call it so it would not keep fallen out. I did take pictures what that linkage or rod looks like so it will not fall off. In the Assembly Instructions pages 4, 5, 6, top of 7 botton of 7 Nuts will need to be tightened. Pg. 8 study how the lower linkage looks # 10. That is how it should look. Pg. 9 no problem. Pg. 10 N.P. Look @ lower linkage that is how it looks so it will not fall out. Pg. 10 N.P. Pg. 11 N.P."

"I received this product 3 days after the order was entered. I was pleased with that until I saw the shipping carton. It looked as if it fell off of the truck! There were a few cosmetic scratches but, what the heck, it's a salt spreader.
The assembly manual has much to be desired; it made the assembly tedious but it got done.
Where this device comes up short is in the mesh of the pinion gear and the ring gear. It's so loose that the gears bind and when that happens, nothing turns. Not the drive wheel and not the spinner. There is an assembly addendum that instructs the assembler to place a provided washer on the shaft and between the pinion gear and the spinner shaft support. The provided washer was too small for the shaft. I used a conventional 1/4in washer (in fact, I stacked 2 of them) and the gear binding seemed to be less. A bit of grease further improved it but it has not gone away. The manual does not mention any alignment proceedure but there isn't very much that can be adjusted.
Now, shame on me for not reading the product reviews before ordering. That said, there are many good reviews for this product so somebody's found the secret to getting this to work properly.
Stainless steel fasteners and plastic components promise many years of service except for the challenge of the gear mesh."
